We have been
working in Yei, Southern Sudan since June 2006, when we resigned from
our UK jobs in the fields of housing and health.
Initially, John
managed the Yei Vocational Training College and Poppy managed the
Diocese of Yei Martha Clinic.
For the last two years, we have been involved in:
-
Developing new health initiatives in the Dioceses of Yei and
Lainya, including a new Primary Health Care Centre at Lainya, an
eye clinic and children's ward in Yei and a mobile clinic
serving rural communities within a 40 mile radius of Yei.
-
Project management of several projects funded by international
donors.
-
Supporting the Diocese of Yei in its aim of building six new
Primary Schools.
-
Managing a UK charity - The Brickworks (Registered Charity
1127606) (www.thebrickworks.org.uk).
-
Sharing in the life of the church in the Diocese of Yei, where
John has been licensed as a lay reader.
We
work full-time on these tasks and spend about 32 weeks living in
Yei, Southern Sudan and the remainder in Winchester, UK. Most of
the projects we manage are on behalf of CMS Ireland (www.cmsireland.org)
which counts us as two of its Mission Associates. The Brickworks
does not support us financially so that 100% of the money given can
be used for the benefit of the projects in Southern Sudan.
The web pages provide more detail on the projects that we are
involved with as well as some information on our family.
